Volume 16 Predictions/Spoilers

  • Theories, hypothesis, and the like for Volume 16, Kurumi Refrain.

With the new volume out, discussion regarding pictures can go here, along with any spoilers.

    • My theory on what Volume 16 may do is Shido probably mentioning to Kurumi what happened during "Kurumi Star Festival", referring to one of her clones and trying to connect with that mock wedding photo he and the Kurumi clone took to try and reach out to her. There's a chance that can happen in the same Volume or in the next... but also a chance it may not, which I'm afraid may actually happen since so far the main cast has not mentioned partial connections to the Encore stories so far. Well, from what I've read at least.

I'd like to also theorize that, with the decreasing threat level DEM is having as of Volume 15, I'm hoping they make a big, "dramatic" comeback against Shido and the Spirits by coming at the last second if Shido does end up sealing Kurumi within Vol. 16 than the next. But I would rather favor it happen in the next since a build up can come out of them from Vol. 16 with Isaac likely planning something to get back at Ratatoskr and then, continuing with the speculation that Kurumi may go Inverse in this Volume too, that comes at the cost of Kurumi going Inverse. Though how this will happen is something I'm still thinking of.

He said "get back AT Ratatoskr", not "back to". And he never worked for Ratatoskr.

And I seriously doubt an unrepentant businessman like Mr. Westcott would ever join Ratatoskr.

      What I predict:

Shido goes on another date with Kurumi, but just as the date ends, DEM confronts them (though Mr. Westcott stays behind to recover from his fight with Elliot in V15).

While Artmesia fights Kurumi, Ellen confronts Shido and non-fatally tortures him in front of Kurumi, causing her to go Inverse and on a rampage.

She brutally assaults Ellen, who vainly attempts to steal Kurumi's Qlipha Crystal, then suddenly turns on Shido. The other spirits jump in to help, but Kurumi is too much for them. She is about to kill the spirits, when Mana flies into the scene and extracts the Qlipha Crystal, reverting Kurumi to normal.

Just as Ellen and Artmesia are about to kill the traitor, Kurumi, amused by Mana's courage to save her, summons Zafkiel and freezes the DEM wizards in their tracks, giving Mana the opportunity to escape, but no sooner is she out of the line of fire when the time-freezing effect wears off and the wizards charge at Kurumi instead, but Shido, carrying Sandalphon, jumps in and knocks the wizards back, then successfully seals Kurumi's powers (as thanks for saving his sister). Ellen and Artmesia are forced to retreat, but suddenly, the other spirits, enraged by what Ellen did to Shido to make Kurumi go Inverse, surround and subdue them (by holding Artmesia still and beating Ellen to a merciless pulp) so as to take them into custody.

    • ^ with the fact that, though not completely confirmed, Kurumi is somewhat acquainted with Phantom gives the possibility that she may also appear in Volume 16. Hopefully in her actual appearance.

I really wanna see what Phantom looks like...

and my friend told me that right now kurumi is no longer evil, she became softer because kudou,is that right??

my point is,i want to ask tokisaki kurumi right now condition, because that girl is so mysterious

      Still though.

But the fact that she can take the form of anybody, or at least as to what it was shown in Volume 11, Phantom is one elusive character... an interesting one at that. I'd really like to also see what she really looks like and who she really is underneath that codename of her's.

        Loading editor
    • And then there's the mistake she made in the past. Just what did she do that it seems her way of trying to prevent it from being made again requires her to turn others into Spirits?

        Loading editor
    • ^ Can you expand on that? I don't quite get it. Sorry.

        Loading editor
    • Back in Volume 11, after Shido tells her he wants her to disappear, she responds by saying she had an idea that he'd be at his wits end dealing with moody Spirits in the future.

Since Shido asked her about his past and his ability to seal spirits, Phantom likely turned others onto spirits knowing that Shido would seal them, so that may be part of her plans.

        Loading editor
    • ^ Oh, okay now I get it.

That's actually quite interesting now that you mention it: Phantom likely turning the others into Spirits just so Shido can seal them gives a newer depth to the story than from what we already speculate and/or know about.

    • This hypothesis might be weird, but does anyone else get from the summary that Kurumi may have learned a similar if not the same method to Shido's sealing ability?

It might be possible that one of her bullets may have the ability to drain mana (or spirit energy) so rather than needing to "eat" Shido, she just takes the power he's accumulated in one swoop.

        Loading editor
    • Pff...Kurumi already demonstrated in volume 10 with Origami and Shido, that she can consume another Spirit's mana to fuel her bullets.

        Loading editor
    • If she wanted to use the other Spirit's angels and powers, she would need to steal their crystals like Westcott did to Nia.

        Loading editor
    • Same sealing ability as Shido sounds like a pretty lame, and out of nowhere plot twist. The competition date seems to more refer to a new fetish....I mean different kinda of date, that Shido hasn't had yet. And even then, we already had the reverse conquest in volume 5. More so, since Volume 15 ended the running gag of Shido always choosing the dumb third option by Fraxinus. The author needs to come up with something fresh to keep the date part of the story interesting.

How about this. In Volume 12, Kotori mentioned that the only way for them to completely remove the sephira crystal is for Shido to seal all the Spirits.

When Shido was overheating in volume 12, he seemed in the process of forming that singular crystal. If Kurumi let's Shido seal her on purpose, then either she, Phantom, or Westcott have the opportunity to steal that crystal.

Personally, I'm hoping for Kurumi to be the one for that to happen if possible. Phantom as well, if possible, since we could learn more about the First. Though this volume seems to be Kurumi's volume. Still, I won't want Westcott. He is a pretty cliche villain. Take every evil and sarcastic British tropes involving psychopaths, and you have him.

    • Heres a lame theroy, what if we find out that this whole time Kurumi has been predicting and manipulating literally everyone (pulling the strings of unwary puppets, including rataoskr/DEM/Phantom/Shido) even Efreets appearance and Issac getting beelzebub was planned, and this whole time shes been manipulating the spirits to all be drawn to one location so she can steal all of their power in 1 go by consuming the crystal within shido (this is an assumption), she has proven time and time again that shes highly intelligent (while a bit screwed in the head at the same time), as well as refined (Simply the way she acts and dresses is proof of this) probably meaning she doesn't want to get her hands dirty with killing 10 different spirits and wants to avoid a confrontation with shido. I also believe it may be revealed that she might already have the power to use her demon king at will (with her sorta fallen angel design I wouldn't doubt it) but refuses to use it due to the power/morale drain it would cause (which would make it hard for her to ensure her master plans success), in addition, I believe she is quite aware of the adeptus's ability to remove crystals, and has a planned counter measure for it. What I believe is we will have a story that will unravel over the course of 2-3 volumes (possibly 4) which might either result in Kurumis death, The first spirit being revealed/killed, Wescott/Ellen getting killed, and tohka going inverse again

        Loading editor
    • Also, Heres something really dumb, but we may find out something about Yoshino, possibly her and Kurumi being sisters even (or maybe Yoshino is a past version of Kurumi), Sounds dumb I know, but if your interested keep reading, so theres some interesting things about them First of all, they are nearly exact oppsites in the way they act, secondly their angels have VERY similar names (Zafkiel and Zadkiel), but this isn't the main reason I mentioned this, as it appears their may be TONS of hidden clues in the series, but this one im surpised this one has yet to be brought up....Yoshinon....she has a very similar name to yoshino, but look at her desgin, does it not resemble a mirrored version of Kurumi? (Red eye on the left, right eye covered by an eyepatch, same as Kurumis left eye was in volume 11 I believe) in addition, Yoshinon seems to have a very similar personality to Kurumi when talking to shido, and Yoshino states she looks up to Yoshinon, just like how she may have looked up to her older sister before she became a spirit, BUT more importantly, when she did lose her memory, do you not think she may have fashioned her only friend out of remnants of her memories of her older sister (while she wouldn't remember her, she could still have remnants of her in her memory similar to the way it was for Inverse tohka on her first appearance), I believe we may discover there is a connection between them in these next few volumes if im not correct at least, but who knows, this may be something hidden in plain sight, but this is up to you to decide

    • Here's something I heard someone mention on Animesuki. It looks like they're making Valentine's chocolates in this image, so this Volume could be indirectly Valentine's Day themed.

Although it does make me wonder what could Kurumi be planning if she chose to act her plans at this time of year?

        Loading editor
    • ^ It could be that "rogue" Kurumi making yet another return. But that's a really hopeful speculation on my side. Then again, this could go into what some of us have been thinking that she may be trying to win Shido over to her instead and possibly trying to make everyone believe she's "changed".

But I'll be honest, I really hope it's that one specific Kurumi clone. I really wanna see her again and at least see, if Vol. 16 goes this direction, how she can affect the development of the next volume and add to the progress of Shido potentially sealing the real Kurumi.

Let me guess, you took the idea from that post from animesuki, same place where you found the picture, Add a little bit more to it, place it somewhere new and it's suddenly a new idea. How very....original?

I've had the opportunity, or displeasure, of having to talk this sort of thing, along with the timeline, with a certain fox min. The the annoying behavior of both an anon and a certain deviant user with the same user name. In my opinion, trying returning to the status quo, after everything that happened, is admirable but doomed to failure. But who really cares about that, am I right?

Anyway, Volume 15's Epilogue, where Kurumi first returned to school mentioned that it's been one month since the conflict with Mukuro. Since Volume 14 started in early January, the events of the epilogue should take place in February. Though I think Tachibana might have made another time skip in Vol 16 to early March, both to fit with the date of the volume's release, and because White Day, where girls give chocolate to boys, is in March.

Also, it seems that the Dragon Magazine version has wedding dress Kurumi on the cover. Though the quality is to bad to post it regretfully.

    • I don't understand the summary. Why does Kurumi need Shido to fall in love with her? She can just go up to him and absorb him. Heck, she's had plenty of opportunities to do that already... What's the hold up? I just don't understand her character... Does she actually want to absorb the guy or not?

        Loading editor
    • ^ That's what makes her interesting: her motive and why she hasn't yet.

There's literally a lot of things to go about this and unless Vol. 16 were to answer it all in one go, there's still a lot more things to think of about her and why she's trying to do so.

        Loading editor
    • I thought she simply wanted to absorb the guy to go back in time and kill the original spirit. I wonder if there's something else to it than...

        Loading editor
    • ^ That's what she basically said to Shido when he first encountered him.

But then again, this is Kurumi we're talking about -- practically a girl with a lot of sides to herself that it is really hard to tell what she's really planning.

    • Spoiler for the prologue:

It looks like a flashback as, a frighten Kurumi gets chased by a inhumane shadowy figure after ending up in another world but was saved by a angel-like girl in a dress tinged with light. The girl who saved her said the shadowy monster was a spirit, world destroyers. She mentions Kurumi has aptitude for being able to wander into that place and asks if she wants power like her, if it's Kurumi the sephira would probably be compatible with her. The girl asks Kurumi to save the world with her and finally she introduces herself as Takamiya Mio, an ally of justice.

That's cool! But now the theory that Tohka and Mio are the same has now been debunked with this, correct? I'd be a bit surprised to learn that she's like Shido and Mana's unknown mother or if she's just someone related to the siblings like a long lost sibling or something of the sorts.

Also, while waiting to actually read Volume 16, judging by the last illustration I saw on the Volume's page here, it seems like Kurumi's gearing up <Zafkiel> for a big fight against whoever is up against her (possibly Shido or Mana... or both, along with the Spirits).

    • Wait .  Takamiya Mio . Takamiya ? in vol 14 we know Mio love Shidou and in this vol she maybe Phantom. But her last name is Takamiya . Mean she related with Shido. So we might see some incest-Brocon relationship ? Mio can't be Shido mother she a youth girl and more important she love him.

No, not Empty. Empty is something else entirely, and multiple sources have suggested that DAB is, at least partly, non-canon, due to Kurumi apparently recieving her Sephirah after killing the Quasi-Spirits sans Empty, whereas V16 shows Mio giving it to her.

No, not Empty. Empty is something else entirely, and multiple sources have suggested that DAB is, at least partly, non-canon, due to Kurumi apparently recieving her Sephirah after killing the Quasi-Spirits sans Empty, whereas V16 shows Mio giving it to her.

Ah, I didn't know that DaB isn't canon, or at least not entirely... Now that's disappointing. I have no interest on DaB if it doesn't features Kurumi's real story *sighs*

Anyway, the statement is still valid for the rest of equalities, especially after you saying Mio gives Kurumi her Sephira.

        Loading editor
    • Oh yeah, Mio definitely gives it to her in canon.

    • More from 2ch:

892: Phantom=Takamiya Mio=Murasame Reine  and I thought a greater twist was coming but it was delivered straight huh

893: Reine-san's methods are usually unorthodox you know…

895: Even so, doesn’t this mean Shidou’s actual age is also huge?

896: Shidou’s backstory hasn’t been completely covered so it’s nothing yet

      My impression

      Kurumi relationship with Mio is:

One day, the ojou-sama Kurumi with a strong sense of justice was attacked by the mysterious existence known as “Spirits” and was rescued by a girl calling herself Takamiya Mio. “Form a contract with me and let’s defeat the spirits together!” said Mio and Kurumi who had accepted her invitation was implanted with a sephira.

For a while Kurumi hunted the “Spirits” together with Mio but, one day she discovered that the “Spirits” were humans that were incompatible after being implanted with the sephira and so they become violent and turned into monsters.

According to Mio, as the sephira is incomplete, there is a need to refine it(them?) through the multiple repeated cycle of: Implant in human-->Rampage-->Kill and Retrieve. In short, Kurumi was made to bear the role of being an accomplice in killing people for the sake of Mio’s goals. However, since Kurumi had found out about it only after she had killed her close friend that transformed into a monster with her very own hands it was a disaster. With that as the start, Kurumi parted from Mio and made going back in time and erasing the fact that spirits originally existed as her goal.

897: But Mio/Phantom’s actions were also for Shidou’s sake so how would Kurumi react after knowing that eh…

900: Kurumi already feel in love with Shidou since a long time ago

901: Well, she was even deredere in the valentine short story for this month’s dragon magazine……

    • There's a picture of Kurumi crying with a gun to her head. Does she commit suicide? Does she get sealed by Shido? Can she find some peace ffs?

Since it's a cliffhanger volume, I think it's more likely (since we've discovered the ability of 11th Bullet, Yud Aleph takes away spirit powers) that Kurumi shot Shido and took the collected 10 x 99% reiryoku built up and is going to finally use it to go back thirty years ago.

I didn't initially notice she was crying in that picture, but based on what small translations so far I think I can understand Kurumi's motivation this volume:

      2.30.222.160 wrote:

901: Well, she was even deredere in the valentine short story for this month’s dragon magazine……

With nine Seripha's sealed, Kurumi now has the means to fulfill her wish, but destroying the ability to create the spirits inevitably means that she and Shido would never meet, so before she does so she wishes to finally have this last chance with him. Despite probably wanting to be able to share the same experiences as the other spirits are, her resolve to prevent the disaster of "failure spirits" and her being used to kill them is still greater, and she won't diverge from that path.

The whole valentine scenario suits it well, and it also explains the first coloured picture release, where she "offered" everything except her spirit power.

Having finally made peace, she shots and takes his power, then tearfully leaves knowing (or believes knowing) that this is the end for them.

I don't have the raws or translation in front of me, so this is my best guess.

    • There's so much new information to take in about what the Artbook has given out, the new story the spin-off has just unfold to us and others.

Okay so the thing about what we can only assume for now (I'm still waiting for Akiye to confirm this herself) as Mio being revealed to be <Phantom> and Reine... and also her being revealed as being the First Spirit too is now a thing to branch a whole new line of theories on. Neat... but again, I think it would be safe to say that we wait for anything actually revealed about this certain thing being completely official because, at least for me, jumping to a conclusion make me it be a bit more confusing.

As for the last remaining abilities of <Zafkiel>'s Bullets... that's honestly interesting how the Sixth Bullet can send the target to another timeline mentally. But would that apply to the same effects as the Twelfth Bullet or no? As in when the target's mind is sent back to a certain period in time... they can interact with the surrounding or not?

I'd also like to put this out here: Has there anything been said in the spin-off about who the Quasi-Spirits are?

    • DAL v16 c01

      I'm going to do my best translating this image because I'm interested in seeing what this is about;

『のために - 死んでくださいま』 ("For all our sakes - Please die")

      『ええ,ええ,喜んで』 (Yes, yes, gladly")

『さあ,さあ,参りましょう』 ("Come on, come on, let's go ahead")

『もとよりこの身は,仮初めの命』 ("This body of course, was only temporary")

      『存分に便い潰してくださいまし』 ("Please give me a full send-off")

『この命が『わたくし』の徽になるならば』 ("Allow this to be the mark of my life")

『喜んで彼岸へと参りましょう』 ("Let's go to Higan with pleasure") <- Higan is a Buddhist term for "the other side". Like Noragami's "far shore".

『今さら可笑しなことを仰いますわ』 ("We'll see something amusing soon")

『『わたくし』もわたくしなれば』 ("You can have "me" also if you want")

『断ることなどありえないとわかるでしょうに』 ("You will find it impossible to refuse")

      -

『- ならば。わたくしに付いてきてくださいまし,『わたくしたち』。この,先のない死出の旅に』 ("Well then. Please come along with me, "Me's". Onward to this premature trip to death")

I think this basically the final send-off to all of Kurumi's clones. At least it wasn't the mutinous massacre I thought of when I saw the image initially.

        Loading editor
    • ^ More or less same thought when I first saw this illustration.

But with this translation you've given out for it speaks something else about the send-off. I'm not gonna go and say that this is what happened since we have no official translations of it yet but I'm guessing that this could mean the real Kurumi could have finally surrendered herself, one way or another, to Shido and is about to allow him to finally seal her powers... somewhat.

Unless this is a part of a ploy she's secretly (as usual) been planning, I'm a bit content with that... but that still does leave what the last illustration says of Kurumi using <Zafkiel>. Anyway, thanks for the translation for that illustration, Adamantium!

Not using my account now but it´s me Jonas. Yes I do have "proof" as you call it: http://hbchicken.exblog.jp/27652709/. He died 204 times or better said, killed by Ellen 204 times. Westcott got serious this volume becuase he knew if they let Shidou seal the tenth spirit, he would assume the role of the "key" and that would be a problem for them. Kurumi has been sending her mind back in time with the sexth bullet all this time and is about to break down.

If he has no spirit power that means he lost all of his abilities right? Then there's no way for him to follow Kurumi and maybe get his powers back and Kurumi would just keep repeating the same cicle of seeing Shidou die and trying to stop it again and again. What to you all think?

    • No, the book ends with the Reine=Phantom reveal, Kurumi doesn't use Yud Bet to go back in time at the end.

Now the other part, after shido dies 204 by Ellen and Nibellcole, Kurumi reaches its limit because she tries to save him by sending his conscience to the past, after this when reaching the limit, phantom appears, and reveals his true identity which Is Murasame Reine

Yeah, I thought it was going to be that. But still, they could have used the volume in better ways to expand both Kurumi's story and the main story. Btw, Issac becoming a lolicon was really surprising and funny (somewhat).

      I think not.

Because, if you were to think about it, if Shido did seal Kurumi her realization that she has indeed fallen in love with him wouldn't be present in the translation given to us because all of us know that the Spirits must have a deep enough affection and trust in Shido before allowing themselves to be sealed by him. Yeah, we do know that Kurumi has a "special interest" in Shido but, taking into account that the whole "she realized she is in love with him" came after the possibility that her powers were sealed.

Her being sealed before that wouldn't work since, as far as we've seen at least, love and trust is needed before Shido can seal a Spirit and the requirements are needed to be met first before the final act can be successfully done.

        Loading editor
    • Okay so wait, is Mio truly Reine/Phantom/The First Spirit or is she just a separate character from the three?

Because if Mio is indeed the First Spirit/Phantom/Reine... and if her relations to Shido and Mana were to be given more light either in the finished translations of Vol. 16 or next Volume... then we can potentially have our answers as to how Shido got his ability in being able to seal the power of the Spirits in the first place. But I want to know is... who is the Takamiya siblings' father? I don't want to go and scream aloud that it's possibly Elliot even though he did admit that he is in love with the First Spirit himself, but a different character would be better in my opinion.

To me, leaving us hanging like this without getting a good enough answer as to who Shido and Mana's biological father is doesn't feel right. It doesn't feel any better if we were to find out that the First Spirit randomly gave birth to Shido and Mana if her relations to the two were to be confirmed. That would feel really odd. Reasonably at that.

    • First Spirit is Takamiya Mio. Phantom is Murasame Reine. And Phantom is not First Spirit. I had read the review of vol 16, but not enough time to translate it to you guys. So I will do a quick spoil here:

-The Marinas is the "Demon King's daughters <Nibellcole>" summoned by Isaac by Demon King Beelzebub.

-Originally Kurumi is a human, she was saved by Takamiya Mio when encountered a rage Spirit in a diffent dimension. Mio asked Kurumi if she want a power like her, and Kurumi become a "Spirit Hunter" beside Mio - who called herself "Ally of justice". Mio said that the Sephira Crystal if directly come into human's body is like poison, and will make they become mad like the monster Kurumi met before. So they need to kill that Spirit to refine the Sephira again and again, until the Sephira become completed. And when Kurumi realized that she was killed so much people and one of them is a close friend of Kurumi. She decided that she must to kill the First Spirit - Takamiya Mio.

-Shidou was killed by Ellen and Nibellcoles total 204 times and Kurumi continuosly used "Sixth Bullet - Vav" send her mind back to past to save Shidou. After that her mind reached to the limit. And in the end of battle, Kurumi encountered Phantom - A existence always appears behind a smoke screen - And the exactly identity of it is "Murasame Reine"

        Loading editor
    • Actually, doesn't it imply Mio and Reine ARE one and the same, since only one Spirit has been handing out Sephirah Crystals? Kurumi's reaction at the end there screamed that, to me, at least. I guess we;ll find out in Volume 17

        Loading editor
    • Cirtainly only an implication for now, though. Nothing has been stated for certain.

        Loading editor
    • A made a bomb, then B through that bomb to C's house. C want to stop that then come back to past to kill A. That my opinion to the thing that Reine is not Mio. And a theory of me is after Kurumi leave Mio, there will be a person take that place, become "Spirit Hunter", and it's Phantom. Continue to complete the Sephiras and luckily now the Sephiras are all completed. So we now have 10 mighty Spirit: Origami, Nia, Kurumi, Yoshino, Kotori, Mukuro, Natsumi, Yamai sister, Miku and Tohka.

        Loading editor
    • I disagree. Kurumi discovered Mio was turning girls into Spirits intentionally when she killed her friend, who is described as being wreathed in flames - IE, she has Camael's Sephirah. So, Mio was in posession of Camael's Sephirah.

But it was Phantom that turned Kotori into a Spirit. Why would Mio trust someone else to do her work for her, when she didn't trust Kurumi? Answer: She wouldn't. Plus, there are only Ten Sephirah - both in real life, and in universe, as Westcott says 'once Shidou seals the last Angel, he will assume the form of the Key', or words to that effect. There is no eleventh crystal for Mio to have given Reine.

Mio and Reine also have the same way of speaking.

It's certainly not confirmed, but the foreshadowing and implication is rather obvious, just as it was for Reine being Phantom, and Origami becoming a Spirit.

        Loading editor
    • Wait, so Mio Takamiya is Shido and Mana's biological mother and she's the first spirit. This probably means his father is human, since Shido doesn't have his own angel. But now that means Kurumi can't kill her because it'll erase Shido's existance.

Also, I'm calling it Shido's father is gonna end up being Woodman.

        Loading editor
    • ^ To me, I hope not.

I find it better if it were an entirely different character that would be Shido and Mana's biological father. Leaving it be without a solution sounds even worse too.

I took a look at the artwork Inverse Yoshino... Ehh, I had a hunch that Yoshinon and Yoshino will switch places. Since Tohka and Inverse Tohka have different personalities, Yoshinon being the Inverse personality of Yoshino is possible... This is just my own personal opinion though.

There are few questions I have about the spoilers though. What does the sixth bullet exactly do? The spoilers made it seem like she used it to travel back in time to save Shidou, but that's more the 12th bullets' powers.

Also, there was somehing about Kurumi swallowing Phantom in her shadow. But also other parts that they say that she just removed the mosaic.

        Loading editor
    • ^ swallowing?

As in like she "devoured" the shadow surrounding Phantom? Or is it just in a sense that she removed it?

        Loading editor
    • @Vizard, I just saw a video on youtube that shows the last couple of pages so I can at least confirm that Kurumi had swallowed up Phantom into her shadow after confirming it was Reine all along. Reine even greeted her with a "as expected of you Kurumi".

    • I'm still a bit confused about this, but in the cases of Reine and Mio, is it Reine=Phantom and Mio=First Spirit, or is it Reine=Mio=Phantom=First Spirit?

        Loading editor
    • @Sky, It's Reine=Phantom and Mio=First Spirit according to Kurumi.(p270)

@Vizard, the sixth bullet sends just the conciousness of the target to it's body in the past.(p316)

Well, that video answered all my own questions so nevermind then.

    • Ok so let me get this straight, Reine has been Phantom all along and The First Spirit is known as Mio Takamiya. Well now that's interesting.

    • ^ So I guess we can bring the whole "Is Reine Phantom or the First Spirit" speculation to a close now with that answer.

But still... I'm still wondering on if Mio/The First Spirit has any relations toward Shido and Mana if she is the two's biological mother. If it's already confirmed and I just missed it then... who is the father?

Those are just "spoilers" and not what you use to write which are summaries. It would be really apreciated if you just write the usual thing.

    • So Mio and Reine are two different people, eh? Alright. So the twist is not so obvious after all.

Still, if Mio is the First Spirit and Reine is Phantom... then isn't it a bit weird? How many Sephira Crystals are there, then? Phantom is also a Spirit after all.

“That… is your real figure, isn’t it?”

With highly vigilant, Kurumi glared at that girl.

“Mah, that’s right. I never thought that the barriers will be peeled off vividly. As I expected of you --- Kurumi.”

While say that, that girl slowly raise her face. Look at that face.

      “------ Uh”

Kurumi's eyes widened. Long, messy hair can be easily recognized. A girl about 20 years old. Looked like she had been not sleeping for a long time. Her eyes are thick dark circles. And peering out of her pocket, is a stuffed bear cover with scars.

      “Murasame---sensei”

Kurumi called up that name .

    • Prologue

The story starts with a revealing of some of Kurumi's profile, like how she was born under a wealthy family and that she was given much love by her parents. One day as she was returning home, she was attacked by a monster and almost got killed when Takamiya Mio showed up and saved her. She then explains that the monster is a Spirit and she is somewhat of an Ally of Justice. Mio then offers to give Kurumi power to help her kill the monsters.

      Chapter 1

The story returns to the present, just moments after the ending of Volume 15. Shocked by seeing Kurumi, Shidou asked Kurumi the reason she is there. After some conversation between them, Kurumi tells Shidou that it is fine for him to seal her Spirit powers under one condition, which she will tell him after school at the rooftop.

The scene cuts to Artemisia at DEM,where she is investigating about Tobiichi Origami. Soon after Elen appears, who was asked by Artemisia whether Artemisia has meet Origami before since Origami knew about her. Elen speaks that Artemisia is a superb Wizard so it is not strange for Origami to know her(however in Elen's mind there is something about Artemisia not recalling her memories,so there is a huge chance Artemisia has her memory wiped by DEM). When they arrived to Westcott's room after being called, he spoke of making Shidou playing the role as the Key,and that by using Beelzebub, they will strike through the hole in Ratatoskr's security and kill him. After that Westcott introduces the two to the Demon King's daughters <Nibelcol>.

Returning to the scene at Raizen High after school,Shidou went to the rooftop to meet Kurumi.Although he was asked to be accompanied by the Spirits,he told them he must do this one-on-one with Kurumi. When he arrived and exchange conversation with Kurumi,he proceeds to ask the condition for Kurumi to allow him to seal her.As she was about to say it,Shidou was struck with a feeling he knew all too well from experience. That feeling of death......

Somewhere up on the sky, Elen and Artemisia were watching Kurumi and Shidou. As they were about to execute the plan to kill him, Mana appeared and blocked Elen, while communications between Elen and Artemisia were shut down by a noise.Elen then summons Nibelcol to assist her to fight Mana, but the Kurumi clones appear to give Mana assistance to fight them.

Back at Shidou, who snapped out from his outmindness after that strange feeling. However when he looked at Kurumi, she looked like she was hiding her fatigue from him. After they exchange words again,Kurumi explain that her condition would be for him and Shidou to have a contest ,where the one who makes the other fall for them first wins.If Shidou wins,Kurumi would let him seal her but if Kurumi wins,Shidou will let her eat him and his Spirit powers.Due to an interference, communications with Fraxinus was blocked and Shidou ended up accepting Kurumi's condition.

      Chapter 2

Back at the Itsuka residence, Kotori punches Shidou for accepting Kurumi's condition just like that. However Kotori also knows that Shidou has no choice but to do so,thus she allowed Shidou to hit her back. However,Shidou went to tickle her instead, causing her to lie on her back weak with tears on her eyes. Here the Spirits arrived and are shocked to see Kotori in that state.(Kotori made them all misunderstand causing Shidou to face hardship) After that, the Spirits other than Tohka,Origami and the Yamai twins were all told about what happened in school, where Mukuro then asks why Kurumi wanted to have the Spirit powers from Shidou in the first place. Here Nia tells everyone about her meeting with Kurumi, that she wanted the time and place where the First Spirit appears and her abilities so that she can kill her.

After knowing that Kurumi's plans was to return back to time, Shidou then asks Kotori why the communications got cut off,to which an injured Mana appeared to explain. She tells that Elen is after Shidou and about the papers where she summoned the Nibelcol, plus that Kurumi is the one who told her about DEM plans to kill Shidou.Origami said that the reason Kurumi must know is because of her clones, but Shidou felt that there was something else after seeing that moment of Kurumi's expression.

The next morning,Shidou was greeted with Kurumi waiting for him at the door. From here both of them went into offense and defense to see who can make the other fall first, with Shidou inviting Kurumi to a spot where stray cats gather, where he was met with Kurumi saying things in cat tongue to play with the cats.Soon after they resumed with the offense-defense, and they both arrived at school where Tohka was worried since there was an accident at the junction Shidou usually pass to go to school and  thought that Shidou was caught in it.After a conversation with the four of them, Shidou had this weird feeling when looking at Kurumi.

(Somewhere in the shadows, the Kurumis are having a conversation and are talking about moving to the next plan)

At lunch break,Shidou invited Kurumi for lunch and with her suggestion, the Spirits together came to the rooftop to eat lunch with Shidou and Kurumi. Here Shidou shows his cat-bento while Kurumi shows her well-balanced bento, and both of them exchanged food which then lead to a battle of wills between the two.(Even the Spirits understand that they were having a serious offense-defense exchange between the two) With their lunch duel ending at a tie,Kurumi then asked Shidou if he is free next Wednesday,to which Shidou replies that he has plans of asking the girl in front of him for a date(Kurumi,of course).February 14th,Valentine's day. That is the day that Kurumi plans to finish the contest between them.

      Chapter 3

At 0:00 in a dark room in the Spirits' mansion,Kotori gathered all the Spirits in order to discuss about their plans on Valentine's Day, which somehow went to trying to make Shidou build up resistance against Kurumi's seduction.(Origami,Miku and Nia disappeared during the conversation). At Shidou's room, he was awoken by a feeling that someone has entered his bed,and after thinking out loud the three people who would do something like this,Origami,Miku and Nia appeared in baby-doll and garterbelt appearance from under his blanket. Although shocked, due to Nia's words Shidou managed to calm himself and push them all out of his room. When he wanted to return to sleep,he noticed the glass from the veranda was knocked.Thinking that it might be Kurumi, Shidou went out of the veranda and was faced with the Nibelcols. Here Shidou was cut by all of them continuously due to his healing powers and eventually, his mind fell into darkness......

The next moment,Shidou woke up and thought that it was all a bad dream. When he went down,he was met with a grown-up Kotori,grown-up Yoshino, three lolis of Miku,Origami and Nia.Shidou was told that he has to build resistance against an adult's seduction to which Kurumi is well known for,and then he was met with the three lolis ripping the outfit of Yoshino to make her in only her apron and undergarments. Not only that,Tohka appeared in adult teacher form and tried to seduce Shidou too,to which he ran to the bathroom to wash his face. There,he was met with adult Natsumi only with a towel wrapped around her, then a doctor-nurse combo of adult Yamai twins, then after running from the three he met adult Mukuro in a loose, seducing kimono outfit, then finally Reine giving the final blow after Shidou collide with her while trying to run away, pushing Shidou to her chest and rubbing his head.

The scene then moves to a few hours after the events at the Itsuka residence, where the Spirits and Reine are looking for ingredients to make chocolate. At some point, Reine told the Spirits that she too has someone she loved, the first and final person she will ever do so.The Spirits felt their hearts moved hearing Reine's story, including Kurumi who was there without them noticing. She was also buying ingredients to make chocolate, and to her suggestion, all of them gathered to the Spirits' mansion to make them.Due to Kotori's inexperience with making chocolate, there were a few set-backs but with the help of Natsumi, all of them managed to make chocolate.

      Chapter 4

On Valentine's Day, Shidou received chocolates from Yoshino,Kotori,Miku,Natsumi and Nia.After saying thanks, he headed for school and receive chocolate from Tohka.Next at the school gates,he received chocolates from the Yamai twins, and at his class he received a 3D-printed chocolate figurine of Angel Origami, complete with a figure box. He was then greeted by Kurumi, who was excited about their date today.(The scene then moves to another conversation in the darkness between the Kurumis)

After school,Shidou invited Kurumi for the date, and instead of following the choices Shidou decided to give Kurumi the re-run of their first date, since that date was with the Kurumi clone and not the original.Kurumi also felt that she wanted to experience the date which caused her younger clone to feel love for Shidou.Their first location was the lingerie store, where Shidou suggested that Kurumi wear the pure white  lingerie which to his horror has more impact than the seductive black one.Kurumi then gives Shidou a black cloth to which Kurumi says that she would wear the ones Shidou chose for her for the date(yeah,Kurumi asked Shidou to hold the ones she was wearing before)

After that Shidou and Kurumi enjoyed their date, and stopped at the park where Shidou first witnessed the cruelty of Kurumi. After sitting down on a bench,Kurumi took out a wrapped chocolate gift in which Shidou also give her a chocolate he made himself. Both of them made a lovely atmosphere together after that, but Kotori informed Shidou that it is still not enough for him to completely seal Kurumi,as if there is a huge shackles that is binding Kurumi. Shidou then proceed to ask Kurumi the reason she wanted to kill the First Spirit,to which after seeing Shidou's determination even after she destroyed the camera and intercom he has with him. Kurumi then invites Shidou to one of her hideouts, then while lying on Shidou's chest, she fired Yud in order to show her memories to Shidou.

Kurumi with her Zafkiel was fighting the Spirit monsters along with Mio, with the intention of not letting anyone else be attacked by the monsters like she is. She does it in order to protect her family and her friend, but she was met with a dreadful truth in the end. The last monster who wield Camael was killed, and Kurumi left while leaving the clean-up to Mio.However when she returned by mistake, she saw her best friend Sawa on the place where the monster was lying dead a moment ago. Seeing the redSephiria in Mio's hands and her lying best friend,Kurumi realized that she had killed her best friend and went into despair.

Moments before she turned Inverse,Kurumi shot Dalet at herself to prevent herself from Inversing,to Mio's surprise. Mio then told Kurumi that she has been giving the Sephiria to people and then collecting them in order to purify the Sephirias. It was so that Mio could entrust all the Sephirias to the human, then she cause Kurumi to black out. When Kurumi woke up, she had no recollection as to what had happened, just that her surroundings is like one which a space quake occurred. When she went into hiding after the AST(or something similar, not really mentioned) attacked her,she used Yud to recall her memories. Here, she made the determination to change history even if she had to kill a lot in order to do so.

"I, will kill the First Spirit. No matter what ,no matter the cause, no matter the means.I will not say that what I am doing is correct.I had believed in the words of the First Spirit and killed people...and this time in order to erase the existence of Spirits I have killed even more.I am evil.It is not mistaken that I am humanity's enemy. Killing and killing and more killing, and putting deaths over more deaths like Nightmare. If there is an after world, there will definitely be a VIP seat for me at the most bottom floor. Even so,I do not mind. Before I fall into hell, that woman, the First Spirit,Takamiya Mio...If I could make it so that she does not exist then..."

When Shidou returned from memory lane, Kurumi continued with her words, to which he was shocked with the name Mio coming out from her mouth.

"I will reset everything. All the things that happened until now,I will return it to zero. That is my reason. The purpose for me to live. For that I need the Spirit powers that Shidou-san has.If I [eat] Shidou, Shidou will die. But if I can get my hands on your Spirit powers, then I will definitely change history. If I can erase the First Spirit, then the event that I ate you will not happen. That is why, please believe in me,Shidou-san.Let me borrow that power, that life of yours."

At first Shidou does not know what to do,but then Kurumi added that the trade is unfair for him thus she offered her everything but her Spirit powers to Shidou (the image where Kurumi is on top of Shidou). However, they were interrupted by the Nibelcol to which Kurumi swiftly took care of them but due to reaching her limit, she fell unconscious.

At DEM,Elen and Artemisia were surprised that their attempts to kill Shidou has failed numerous times already no matter how much they planned. They knew that Kurumi was protecting Shidou for some reason, and Westcott figured out that Kurumi knew not just their plans to attack Shidou, but the attack itself in the first place.

When Kurumi fell unconscious, one of her clones let her rest on the bed, while another clone, the clone with the appearance from five years ago told Shidou that Kurumi has been very tired for the past several days and asked him to allow her to rest. After an exchange of words, the Kurumi clone proceed to tell Shidou that he has been killed numerous times already, with the first being at the rooftop where Elen stabbed him from behind and cut his neck off.

With Shidou's death, the Spirits went Inverse and Kurumi fell into depression as everything that she worked for has been for naught. No,the worst feeling is that she felt depressed over Shidou's death. Her clone managed to bring Shidou's body to her,but even with Dalet she could only fix his body and not revive him.Feeling sorrow, Kurumi hugged Shidou's corpse and kissed him, saying that the second time is also when he is not awake. At that moment,Kurumi realized that power flowed into her and when she checked Zafkiel, the 6th of the clock that she thought was unusuable due to being destroyed by Camael had returned its light.

      "Shidou-san......Hey,Shidou-san?"

How many times has this been? Putting my lips over Shidou's cold lips?

      "Let's,meet again......?"

(Akiye's note:UWAAAAAAAAA?!?!?! This is seriously heavy?!)

After the past Kurumi explained to Shidou that he has died over 204 times, the real Kurumi awoke and after some tsundere like words disappeared from Shidou's view. After hearing the story that Kurumi has saved him so many times,Shidou was determined to save her this time.At the time,Kurumi was very embarrassed that the clone Kurumi had told Shidou about her actions, since it would make her look like she is doing everything she can to save Shidou from harm, making it look like she cared about him.

After some time,Phantom appears to give an advice to Kurumi, but Kurumi knowing the identity of Phantom wanted to kill her. After her noise barrier broke by using Zayin and an all-out attack,it was revealed to Kurumi that the one behind the noise barrier was Murasame Reine, and after that she realizes how everything was connected. Then she used her shadow hands to pull Reine into the darkness.

I definitly think it was Natsumi's power since she used the loli transformation in Volume 9, and the adult on others in Volume 11. Plus, since it was all to prevent Shido from being easily seduced by Kurumi, it would be her doing all the age manipulation.

    • Actually both are accurate Spanish translations of 'you're right' ^

        Loading editor
    • Well, not really. "Eres correcto" doesn't make sense. In english, the verb "to be" is divided into two verbs in spanish which would be "estar" and "ser". Both of them are "to be". However, when you say "You're right" in spanish, you use neither of them. Instead you use the verb "to have". So what you're basically saying in spanish would be "You have right" and that doesn't really make any sense in english just as "Eres correcto" in spanish.

      That's something that I don't understand.

    • @Vincetick, I had looked into it before and it seems to be solely a Japanese thing. According to the JP wiki, Nicole Aubrey who was allegedly possessed by Beelzebub in 1566 had also given birth to a child named as Ni-beel-cole/Nibelcole but after looking around online I couldn't find a single reference in English.

        Loading editor
    • ^ So if I were to compare Nicole Aubrey to Westcott who still has <Beelzebub> in his hands... in a way, Westcott gave "life" to the Marina clones and named them his <Nibellcole>?

I find that so freaking wrong in so many ways... I don't want to indulge the thought anymore.

And though she was mentioned by the really empowered codename of "M.A.R.I.A.", I still hold doubt that Maria herself is still a part of the canon. Then again, <Phantom> taking on the appearance of Rinne and now the <Nibellcoles> taking on the appearance of Marina, I'd be a bit more surprised if they somehow manage to reference Rio... her or, and this is comes in the form of foolish naive hope but, Mayuri in some cases.

I think it is very likely for both Mayuri and Rio to make an appearance since Rinne, Maria and Marina have (kind of).

In any case, Rinne would be the easiest one to bring to the main volumes since the main point of Rinne Utopia was that Shidou almost died (or died.I don't remember) and the situation is similar to what it is now (by that I mean Shidou dying), Rinne herself might make and appearance to save him (again) and would most likely bring Rio with her (cause the whole parents-child thing the three of them got).

If they make the A.I. Maria appear (in like a hologram or something like that) and she has the same looks as the spirit Maria does then that would pretty much make it cannon (at least for me) and Marina said in Rio Reincarnation that she 'lives in Maria' or something like that. So it would kill two birds with one stone.

Mayuri would be the hardest one to bring to the main volumes, but she could appear depending on the situation given. Like, she said that she appeared because a lot of spirit powers focused on one point (Shidou), so let's say Shidou gets an better handling of his powers, that could justify Mayuri comming back and she could even bring the Quasi-Spirits with her (making both Mayuri Judgement and Date A Bullet canon).

Anyway, these are just how I would bring them to the main volumes. If anyone disagrees, then, by all means, tell me why.

    • From what little I can decipher from various sources, the Quasi-Spirits are artificial Spirits made by some kind of 'dollmaker' (who is neither Mio, Reine or Westcott; I think he dies at the end). They're paper talismans animated via mana (I can't tell if it's Reiryoku or Maryoku, though), similar to oriental Shikigami. Nothing to do with the main story at all (which makes sense, given that Date A Bullet is written by a different author, though with Tachibana's input). Someone compared them to the Ashcroft Series from Date AST Like/Date A Strike, I think? It seems like an apt summization of their overall importance.

    • Also, before I forget, the 'Empty' we see is actually Kurumi, having had her identity, powers, appearance, memories, etc, stolen by the tenth Quasi Spirit, Hibiki. So the Kurumi we follow throughout the story is actually this Hibiki, and Empty is the Kurumi. Hibiki needs Kurumi's power to defeat the dollmaker, and returns them afterward. It's implied(stated?) that Kurumi's appearance as Empty is similar (or the same) to how Hibiki appeared before temporarily becoming Kurumi.

The whole book is...really weird, let me tell you. Not bad, by any stretch, but...it doesn't feel like a Date A Live book.

    • I haven't read DAB but going by online wikis the shikigami stuff is nonsense. The quasi-spirits each contain a sephira fragment, False Proxy is not a quasi-spirit but a doll that the doll master created. Hibiki is actually part of the seventh spirit type and that's where her usurping abilities come from.

For Maria, isn't there a "True Ending" where Maria was able to "download" herself to Shido's phone after the events of "Ars Install"? If the events of the second game were to be proven canon, then I'd like to see Maria appearing on Shido's phone... like from Fraxinus' main CPU system and somehow to his phone.

As for Mayuri... how would that work though? The way I'd like to see her return, if it is possible (I hope so much), is that the concentration of Spirit mana that may be possibly unleashed by the Spirits were to somehow combine again and then form into a sphere in the sky, the result being Mayuri's creation... or better yet, for me anyway, her being "revived"... because we did get a subtle hint in the animated film that Mayuri could may as well still be alive. Not referring to what Tohka said about "Mayuri living within all of them (her and the other Spirits present at that time)", but rather her actually living somewhere like in that plain that we saw Rinne in at the end of "Rinne Utopia".

Anyway... we're sort of digressing from the point of topic this thread is supposed to be about. Sorry for this!

    • Rinne and Mayuri are essentially the same thing though, in that they're both concentrated Spirit mana in human form. So it could summon either one that way. Unless three lots of mana creates Rinne, six lots creates Mayuri and ten...?

Mayuri is created from the mana of Shidou + the  six spirits he had sealed at the time.

Rinne is just a bunch of random mana together (and Rio is Shidou's mana.+ Rinne's mana).

They have the same origin but they are different.

Well, I just tried to put every spirt together in the main volumes some way or antoher, so I didn't really try to find the best of excuses. But, you're right. A.I. Maria might make an reference to being in Shidou's phone and that would mean that she is the same as Spirit Maria (or that Fraxinus hacked Shidou's phone)..

And I tried to put DAB in there aswell cause I'm just one of these guys that doesn't like to separate stories in to cannon and non-cannon stuff (I think stories are better when everyting that the autor approves is valid to the story). But, that's just what I want.

In regards to the last paragraph, you're not alone in that department.

And what I would like more is that some of the characters, good or bad, would make references, clear or vague, to events that aren't a part of the main canon. Specifically the events of the games and/or the movie. I know that Shido's memory of what happened in Rinne Utopia is now intact thanks to what happened, from what I've managed to tell at least, in Rio Reincarnation... so subtle references to any of these would be cool.

    • So Inverse Kurumi is already a fact, right? It might be happening in the next volume well I am pretty certain it will happen tbh.

        Loading editor
    • No, it's not a fact since it hasn't happened yet. You can hope for certain things to happen, but what makes reading fun is the uncertainty of what the author has planned.
