It could mean we can see what she is up to not seen in the main volumes of the Light Novels.

    • I hope it tells the story about how Kurumi became a spirit, as well as her motivations. Basically, sheding some light on Kurumi, who is by far the most complex character in DaL.

Me too, I'd love to see her first meeting with Phantom and the event that lead to her goal of eliminating the First Spirit.

    • More Kurumi is always good. Though this story seems to have a different author, so no idea how that might work. Well, I just hope this side story doesn't turn into a vague reference in the main LN like what happened with Artemisia and Origami

    • The fact that I can see that Kurumi's design is completely different is the one thing that shines to me right now about the spin-off.

It's to the point that I'm gonna safely assume that it will be a story of her time before the start of the series or just a completely different side story that tells the story on her own perspective.

    • According the the pages, the author is Yuuichirou Higashide (東出 祐一郎). From what information there is, he is a primarily game scenario writer. His most notable work appears to be Bullet Butlers (wrote both the game scenario and the accompanying light novel).

The illustrator is NOCO, who is doing the character artwork for the recent Atelier series games, and also one of the games for the Kantai Collection.

    • Ok, I have few small translations from the pages:

The long scroll across both pages reads: "さあ-私たちの殺合いれを始めましよう" ("Come on, we have begun to kill" or something similar)

On the four points on the left page, the heading for the first point is "時崎 狂三" (Tokisaki Kurumi).

The second heading is "殺し合い" (Killing together" or "Killing each other")

The third heading is "エンプティ" (Enputei = Empty)

And the fourth heading is ブレット" (Buretto = Bullet).

The bottom of the right page are comments by Tachibana, Higashide (spin-off's author) and NOCO (spin-off's illustrator).

And finally the full writing on the top right page reads:

時を操り、人をも喰らう少女。 (A girl manipulating time and eating people.)

      時崎 狂三。 (Tokisaki Kurumi.)

彼女はなにを求め、なにを手にするのか。(What is she asking, and what do you get.)

紅き最凶の精霊『ナイトメア』による。 (It depends of the evil spirit [Nightmare].)

      "もうひとつ"の戦争(デート)が始まる。("Another" war (date) begins.)

弾丸という言菓の恵昧するものとは? (What is this sweet confession called a bullet?)

真っ先に思い浮かぶのは狂三の天使{刻々帝 (ザフキエル)}。(The first thing that comes to mind is Kurumi's Angel {The Emperor of Time (Zaphkiel)}.)

それぞれの能力をもった一二の弾。(Twelve Bullets each with their own abilities.)

本故でもまだ明かされていない弾の能力に関係しているのだろうか? (Is this reason related to the abilities of the bullets that have not been revealed as of yet?)

While I too do not want that route since too many spirits means that the quality and the balancing of characters would have to suffer to accommodate all these new additions.

However, it is still possible; if you look at the Schemhamphoras, then there are a possible 72 angels with their 72 demon kings already listed out.

It's ridiculous, but if there are to be more, this is the likely source.

    • Hey guys!! I have found light novel cover in date a bullet

      Kurumi spoiler cover

Let's see.... Who is that in behind kurumi? New character!?

        Loading editor
    • Long White-silver hair. Red eyes. Long white dress. There's a choker around her neck with frills. She's also holding a musket in her right hand.

My first guess is that this might be Phantom (perhaps another disguised form like with Rinne in vol.11)

I was going to guess based on her attire and the colour of her hair that she might possibly have been the previous spirit no.1 (before Origami), however there was no sign of Metatron anywhere so threw that idea out.

Apart from those guesses, I can't say it's an existing character.

        Loading editor
    • I was also guessing that it might be phantom

        Loading editor
    • I'd like to throw in a theory that it could be an inverted clone of Kurumi of sorts.

But then again, that girl possibly being Phantom would be cooler to know. And in all honesty, gosh darn does she look awesome! Not even gonna lie!

It's really awkward to call a girl Empty... Hum let me guess Empty is the real name of Phantom ? It sounds great.

        Loading editor
    • Interesting, she has the same eye color as Kurumi, minus the clock eye.

I don't think Empty is the name since it is written in Katakana (エンプテ), though then again that's more reserved for foreign names anyway.

        Loading editor
    • It can be Kurumi before she gets her powers, and by extension, her clock eye. With the help of them, she has rewind time to recover after illness. Then she has also gained her black hair. It can explain why she is always restore her time... to don't became again ill and weak.

        Loading editor
    • @Vizard, Empty is a nickname Kurumi gave her and you're right in that foreign names are usually written in kata. The author even provided the Japanese equivalence just in case the reader didn't know the meaning エンプティ(空っぽ). As for the silver haired girl, I'm thinking it's either Phantom or a split personality of Kurumi but it could be an entirely different character.

    • @Kuratatsu, I don't know about everyone else but I like the nickname Kurumi gave her. "Empty" sounds like an interesting nickname to give someone, more so with a character we've never actually seen or heard of before in the series (unless my speculation that this is Phantom in her, more or less, actual appearance and not in another disguise).

As for the "split personality" part. I find that an interesting thing to mention. Considering her close resemblance to Kurumi, that could be a possibility and could give more into Kurumi's character. All in all, I really now can't wait for this spin-off. I'm getting all giddy from it just thinking of what it has in store for all of us!

        Loading editor
    • Maybe she IS Kurumi. Like in a potential future, Kurumi succeeds in taking Shidou's power and went to the past to stop Westcott and the others only for it to turn out that SHE was the first spirit. She loses control due to too much spirit energy though and causes the Eurasia Sky Disaster becoming what we know as the first spirit. She survived but lost her power and hair color and SHE ended up causing the spread of the spirit crystals into the world. Now going by the name Empty, she is trying to stop Kurumi from making the same mistake.

      this is just a theory.

        Loading editor
    • ^ That sounds a bit cheap and, to me at least, ruins part of what the series is trying to build up on. I do like the idea, but... story-wise and from what Tachibana has been developing since Volume 1, that kind sounds like an easy way out of the whole "Who the First Spirit is/was" mystery and an all too easy answer to the "why Kurumi is trying to go back 30 years ago" bit.

        Loading editor
    • 30 years ago? wait does that mean kurumi's age was already mentioned?

        Loading editor
    • Anton0125 wrote:
30 years ago? wait does that mean kurumi's age was already mentioned?

No. The first spirit showed up 30 years ago, but Kurumi's true age when she became a spirit herself is somewhere between 30 years and present day. Only the spirits who remember that they were once human have confirmed biological ages, while Nia confirmed that she was biologically in her mid-fourties while still retaining her 18-19 year old appearence.

Kurumi's physical age is 16/17, but she could be biologically older depending on when she first gained her spirit powers.

        Loading editor
    • ^ Speaking of that.

Off-topic but, I'd be really surprised if somehow Yoshino were to confirm her age that she's "far older" than she looks. That would be really funny in my opinion.

Now back to the spin-off. I just wanted to add this little question: When does the spin-off take place in? Is it before or is it during the events of the main series? Unless if the summary for the spin-off had somewhat already confirmed when, I wanted to ask this right away because there can be some nice speculation on when this one takes place in.

Because if it takes place before, which I'm sure is the most obvious, then there can be a lot done for it before Kurumi heard of Shido in the first place and to see her very personality before she made her debut, considering how different her Astral Dress is compared to what it looks like usually, even if it is a different illustrator doing it, wouldn't some of you find it interesting to see her wearing a different variant of her Astral Dress and seeing the kind of attitude Kurumi had/has before the main series?

Compare that to her appearance in the main series... you'll get a clue.

        Loading editor
    • ^ You can ask yourself if this actually takes place before or during.

Kurumi's very different attire could be a sign that this is the real Kurumi or it could from just after she got <Zafkiel> or something between those lines.

        Loading editor
    • ^ I think that happened before.

        Loading editor
    • I'll bet that white-haired girl is Phantom. Which would mean we get to know Phantom's real looks after so long. There might also be a relationship with "empty" if Reine is Phantom (which I believe). Let's remember that Reine has the "zero" kanji in her name (her surname's second kanji and her name's first kanji form the "zero" kanji together), which is the number of "nothingness" or "emptiness".

I know there's an actual meaning to it that I can just ask Google-senpai about but... I want to know what it is supposed to mean about these particular characters.

It comes from Latin "quasi" (quam "as" + si "if"), meaning "close to, but not quite" meaning that those girls are close to being spirits, but are not really.

Also thanks Kanon for correcting my translation.

The spin-off novel (not anime (keep playing the waiting game)) already came about a week and a half ago.

      That's... quite the misinterpretation there...
